Tribe Doc..

A Tribe Called Quest Documentary Trailor

Tribe is my favorite group of all time. It hurts me to see that at one point these brothers were so mad at each other. I still love them more than anything else in music. Period. I can't wait to see the full documentary. I saw them this past summer at Rock The Bells and they tore it down beyond comprehension. I kept telling everyone that Tribe was going to to in, but I feel like some heads were sleeping. If they didn't know before, I guess they know now. Shouts to Phife and Ali and also Jarobi (lol) but Q-Tip is the heart and soul and one of the backbones of Hip Hop. I love that dude man... Straight love. One of my idols. Shouts to Michael Rappaport.

Stypeones On The Set

So a friend of one of my best friends asked me to do a set for him for an upcoming brand launch. This was the initial mix I made. It is going to be tweeked a bit to sort of fit the sound we are looking for more accurately, but this is still a dope mix nonetheless. As a perfectionist, I can't say I am 100% satisfied with this, but it did come out pretty well and there are some really dope tracks here. Sit back and chill and bump this one from start to finish. If you love 90's Hip Hop, you will love this one.

Greater Strides On The Road To Zion

Thus far in 2010, I have to say that Nas and Damian Marley's "Distant Relatives" has been my overall favorite album. To be honest, I had to put the album down because I rocked it multiple times a day for 3 or 4 months. While I was on the train this morning, I started thinking about what my favorite albums of the year were. Obviously the 4th QT always provides us with some great records, so I can't give a definite list yet as some albums have not been released. Shit, the Kanye record alone is shaping up to be something serious, and while based on what I have heard I can't say it's better than DR or even The Root's fantastic "How I Got Over", it still sounds dope. Kanye records do seem to creep up on me, though. I can't say that I won't like it much more than I do now, but only time will tell. There were a bunch of other albums that dropped this year that I liked as well, and at the end of December, I will have my definitive list and post it here.

The Nas and Damian record is something special, though. Damian Marley is such a talent and he and Nas vibed as if they were separated at birth. The production on this record is top notch. Damian really brought the best out of Nas, and it shows all throughout. Everyone wants Nas to rap like it's 1993 again, but that is just not going to happen. As with any human being, Nas is a different person in 2010. Get over it already. I thought Nas handled this album with a maturity rarely seen by today's modern MC and he delivered verse after verse filled with smart, uplifting, crisp rhymes. Nas still got it, trust that. Can't wait to see what he has in store for his next solo album do out next year, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say hopefully he can figure out a way to get "The Lost Tapes 2" out to the world. That was such a fuckin tease, I still have blue balls.

I saw Nas and Damian live this past summer in Williamsburg, BK with my friends Lance and Danny. What a show man. I have seen Nas a bunch of times, and this was his most inspired performance thus far. I guess it's easy to get inspired when you have Damian and his tremendous band to rock with, while staring at the NYC skyline on a beautiful summer night. They ran through DR joints plus did solo sets. Damian also performed some of his father's songs, and he was spot on. It was almost kind of creepy. lol It was one of the best shows I have ever been to, and I have been to many.

Here is a live set of theirs, at the Openair Frauenfeld Festival in Switzerland this past July. They more or less rock the same set each time, so the chemistry is perfect and as I said, Damian brings the best out of Nas. Enjoy!

Nas and Damian Marley - Openair Frauenfel Festival 7.9.10

Also, peep Nas black the fuck out on my favorite DR track "Leaders" in LA. Last verse is something serious.
